Will the New +1 Button Increase Website Popularity?

With the recent debut of the Google Plus Button for all websites and display ads. This could be good news for businesses, or marketers, that have already integrated Facebook and Tweet social sharing buttons on their sites. This is a definite sign social media is here to stay. This simple idea could be great for business.

+1 Can Make You Popular

With a plus one button added to a website’s content, there’s increased likelihood that a visitor will click the button and thus helping the site organic search results in Google. This instantly shows up in Google Search. The best news is that due to Google Plus’ Social Network notification system, that person’s friends will also be made aware that their friend +1 your site or blog.

This is almost word-of-mouth promotion and personal endorsement territory and can mean a lot more interest for your website and business. Any change that positively increases the chances of a +1 personal recommendation which can then be seen by hundreds, or thousands, of people has to be a good thing.

Second Nature

The real benefit of this new addition could come in the future. As the button becomes more established, so it becomes more accepted and people become more au fait with these buttons. That does not mean they will ignore them, what it means is that they will become more likely to click them as they become used to seeing them on sites.

Non-Google Plus users will see more and more of these buttons on websites and may be encouraged to join the site and see what the fuss is all about. This is great news for Google, obviously, but it is also good news for business – this will inflate potential customer population.

Incidentally, it should be noted that there is NO “-1” button - so a website can never get a bad recommendation. It seems that Google has finally starting to consider the need of business with its latest integrations.
